Friendly Street (2004-5) was a show about the streets where the Good Companions grew up. This production was part of a wider celebration entitled ‘The Place Where I Grew Up’, in which community groups of elders in south London prepared shows based on their own experience and shared them in a multi-cultural festival of theatre, music and dance organized by Age Exchange and the European Reminiscence Network. Plays dramatising the young days of elders from the West Indies, Nigeria, China and Vietnam and India gave a sense of the background of the elders, now all living in neighbouring parts of London.
A short documentary film entitled ‘Making Theatre from Memories’, available on the 'Production' page, shows how this piece of reminiscence theatre was put together and features the reflections of participants concerning the impact on their lives of dramatizing their memories.
