A Time To Remember (1995)

Older people from eight countries came together to participate in reminiscence theatre

In October 1995, the European Reminiscence Network, then based at Age Exchange in London, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II with an international festival of older people’s theatre entitled “A TIME TO REMEMBER”. Nine groups participated in the event, all of them creating a new piece of theatre for the occasion with the assistance of professional theatre directors in each country. In all cases, the plays were built from the reminiscences and personal experiences of the participants.

At the end of the Festival we conducted a survey of the groups to evaluate their experience of creating theatre about their lives and sharing their shows with national and international audiences.  The report available as a pdf at the bottom of this page brings together the findings of this survey.

This video shows highlights from the festival. The full video record is available at the Reminiscence Theatre Archive.
