The Place Where I Grew Up (2004)

A festival of ethnic elders' theatre based on their memories of 'home'

‘The Place Where I Grew Up’ was a festival of reminiscence theatre created  by community groups in south east London, dramatising their experience of growing up in far distant lands and migrating to Britain for work and a better future. The plays they made, with the help of professional directors, were brought to a three-day festival in the Blackheath Halls in 2004 involving young people in local schools, celebrating diverse cultures and sharing common experience. The festival saw the launch of the book ‘Mapping Memories’, featuring ethnic minority elders’ reminiscences supported by the National Lottery.
