Exhibition

OUR LOVELY HOPS, an illustrated book of hop-picking memories and photos was launched by Glenda Jackson, long-term Patron of Age Exchange, at the Reminiscence Centre.

A specially created three-dimensional exhibition/installation on hop-picking was launched at the same time, which later became the set for the Theatre-in-Education show on the same theme for local children.

The exhibition included works by T.C. Dugdale ARA and Rowland Hilder OBE (see images below). An original mural and installation was designed by Lisa Wilson, painted and constructed by Steve Wilson and Dora Schweitzer (also pictured below).

All the contributors to the project enjoyed the launch event and many worked with the children on the Theatre-in-Education show in the weeks that followed.

The film below shows the launch by Glenda Jackson MP of the exhibition on hop-picking at the Reminiscence Centre in 1991 designed by Lisa Wilson and created by Steve Wilson and Dora Schweitzer. The exhibition was the three-dimensional setting for the Theatre-in-Education show and a celebration of the memories of over 100 hop-pickers. Viewers can see how those who gave their memories participated in the exhibition opening, recapturing spontaneously the atmosphere and spirit of the time.
